Google quietly made its mid-tier AI plan a lot more attractive. The company bumped storage on its $20-per-month AI Pro plan from 2TB all the way to 5TB, and here’s the best part — the price stays exactly the same.
That extra space works across all the Google services you already use daily. Think Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. So if you’ve been nervously watching your storage fill up while trying out AI image or video tools, this upgrade gives you a lot more breathing room.
More Than Just Extra Cloud Storage
The storage boost isn’t the only thing AI Pro subscribers get. Google also bundled in Google Home Premium Standard with the plan. Normally that add-on costs $10 on its own.
What does that get you? Things like a 30-day event history for your Google Home devices. That’s a nice bonus for anyone who’s already invested in the Google smart home ecosystem.
Plus, Shimrit Ben-Yair, Google’s VP and GM of Google One and Google Photos, announced on X that both AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers will get access to new features. One standout is Chrome auto browse, which automates online tasks right inside your browser.

Where AI Pro Sits in Google’s Confusing Plan Lineup
Here’s where things get a little tricky. Google currently offers three AI-focused plans, and nine paid plans total. That’s a lot to sort through.
The entry-level paid tier is AI Plus at $8 per month. It comes with 200GB of storage and a limited set of AI features. Then there’s AI Pro at $20 per month — now with that upgraded 5TB of storage. At the top sits AI Ultra at $250 per month, which includes a massive 30TB of storage.
For comparison, Google’s non-AI Premium plan costs $10 per month and gives you 2TB of storage, plus some access to the Veo 3.1 video generation model. So the AI Pro plan now doubles the storage of the Premium plan at twice the price.
Also worth noting — Google is offering a one-month free trial on the AI Plus plan if you want to test the waters before committing.
AI Credits and What You Can Actually Create
Every Google plan priced at $20 or higher includes 1,000 monthly AI credits. These credits power creative tools like Whisk and Flow for generating images and videos.

The credit cost per project varies quite a bit, though. Depending on the tool and video type, you’ll spend anywhere from 10 to 100 credits per creation. So a simple project might burn 10 credits, while a complex video could chew through 100 in a single session.
That means heavy creators could burn through their monthly allowance faster than expected. But for casual users experimenting with AI-generated content, 1,000 credits per month should go a long way.
Why the Timing Makes Sense
There’s some interesting context here. OpenAI recently shut down Sora, its video generation service. That leaves a gap in the market for AI video tools — and Google seems ready to fill it.
With Veo 3.1 available even on the $10 Premium plan, and full AI credit access starting at $20, Google is positioning its video and image generation tools as solid alternatives. The 5TB storage expansion makes it easier to store everything you create without constantly managing space.
If you’ve been sitting on the fence about upgrading to AI Pro, the combination of tripled storage, bundled Google Home Premium Standard, and new automation features makes it a noticeably stronger package than it was even a month ago. Whether that justifies the $20 monthly price tag depends entirely on how deep into Google’s ecosystem you already live — and how much you actually want to experiment with AI video and image creation.
