British and Irish streaming fans have waited long enough. HBO Max officially launched in the UK and Ireland on March 26, and it arrives with some serious firepower right out of the gate.

Oscar-winners One Battle After Another and Sinners are both available to stream from day one. So is The Pitt, the buzzy Max Original that’s been getting plenty of attention. Plus, if you’re counting down to Season 3 of Euphoria, that drops in April.

And for fans of beloved mega-franchises, both The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter have found a new home on the platform — perfectly timed, since both franchises are celebrating their 25th anniversaries in 2026.

Four Plans, Four Price Points

HBO Max four subscription tiers from Basic Ads to Premium 4K

UK subscribers get four options to choose from, ranging from budget-friendly to premium.

The most affordable is Basic with Ads at £5 per month. You get the full HBO library plus select Warner Bros. movies at 1080p on up to two devices. The catch? Movies that skip straight from theaters to HBO Max aren’t included on this tier.

Step up to Standard with Ads at £6 per month and those theatrical releases are included. You also get 30 offline downloads, still at 1080p, still on two devices. For just a quid more, it’s a solid upgrade.

Rather skip the ads entirely? The ad-free Standard plan gives you everything on two devices with up to 30 downloads. And then there’s the top-tier Premium plan at £15 per month, which unlocks 4K Ultra HD streaming with Dolby Atmos, four simultaneous streams, and 100 offline downloads.

Sky and NOW Subscribers Get a Free Boost

HBO Max four subscription plans ranging from Basic Ads to Premium 4K

Here’s some genuinely good news for existing TV customers. Eligible Sky TV subscribers will automatically find HBO Basic with Ads rolled into their existing package at no extra charge. That’s thanks to an expanded partnership between Sky and Warner Bros. Discovery.

NOW Entertainment subscribers get similar treatment. HBO Max integrates directly into the NOW app, so there’s no separate login or extra app to deal with.

TNT Sports Comes Along for the Ride

HBO Max in the UK isn’t just about prestige drama and blockbuster films. The platform is also now home to TNT Sports, which is a bigger deal than it might sound.

Sky and NOW subscribers get HBO Max with TNT Sports bundle included

TNT Sports carries over 50 Premier League matches per season. It also streams UEFA Champions League football, MotoGP, and the Tour de France. So HBO Max subscribers essentially get a sports streaming package bundled in alongside all the HBO content.

The Bigger Picture Behind the Launch

The UK rollout completes HBO Max’s European expansion, but the timing is notable. Warner Bros. Discovery recently set a date for the shareholder vote on its merger with Paramount Skydance, which was agreed just last month. Meanwhile, Netflix paid a reported $2.8 billion fee after a previously announced deal to acquire the historic studio fell through.

It’s a turbulent moment in the streaming industry. But for UK viewers, none of that corporate drama changes the simple reality: there’s now another strong streaming option on the table.

If you’re already a Sky or NOW subscriber, this is essentially a free addition worth exploring straight away. And if you’re shopping around for a new streaming home, especially with Euphoria Season 3 just weeks away, HBO Max has arrived at exactly the right time.
