Netflix just launched something parents are going to love. It’s a brand-new, standalone gaming app for kids called Netflix Playground, and it comes packed with games built around shows children already know and adore.
Think Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, and Dr. Seuss characters brought to life in interactive game form. Plus, the best part? There are zero ads, zero in-app purchases, and zero surprise charges on your credit card statement.
Familiar Characters, Zero Surprise Bills
The Netflix Playground game library launches with eight titles right out of the gate. Kids can jump into Playtime With Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Dr. Seuss’s Horton!, Storybots, Dr. Seuss’s The Sneetches, Bad Dinosaurs, Dr. Seuss’s Red Fish Blue Fish, and Let’s Color.
So if your child has a favorite Netflix show, there’s a good chance they’ll recognize a friendly face in the app. That familiarity makes the whole experience feel less like downloading a random game and more like stepping into a world they already love.

Netflix’s VP of animation series and kids TV, John Derderian, put it simply: “We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters.”
No Ads, No Extra Fees, No Stress
Here’s what makes Netflix Playground genuinely parent-friendly. Every single game in the app is completely ad-free. There are no in-app purchases hiding behind shiny buttons, and no subscription upgrades required to unlock content.
It’s also included with every Netflix plan, regardless of which tier you subscribe to. You don’t need a premium account or a special add-on. Just download the app, sign into your existing Netflix account, and you’re in.
Netflix’s built-in parental controls carry over into Playground too. That means parents keep the same oversight tools they already use, applied to gaming as well as streaming.
Offline Play Changes Things

One feature that genuinely stands out is offline play support. Every game in Netflix Playground works without an internet connection, which is a bigger deal than it might sound.
Long car rides, airplane trips, or those moments when the Wi-Fi decides to give up at the worst possible time? Covered. Kids can keep playing without any interruptions, and parents don’t have to scramble for a hotspot.
That kind of reliability matters a lot when you’re trying to keep a seven-year-old occupied on a three-hour drive.
Who Gets Access Right Now
Netflix Playground is designed specifically for children eight years old and under. That age range makes sense given the show lineup, which skews toward preschool and early elementary content.

Right now, the app is available for download in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, the Philippines, and New Zealand. A broader global launch is scheduled for April 28, so if you’re in another country, the wait isn’t far off.
Getting started is straightforward. Download Netflix Playground onto whatever mobile device your child uses, sign in with your regular Netflix credentials, and the full game library appears immediately.
A Smart Move for the Family Streaming Space
Netflix has been expanding its gaming offerings for a while now, but Netflix Playground feels different from earlier efforts. Those were largely aimed at adult subscribers looking for something extra. This one goes all-in on a specific audience: young kids and the parents who manage their screen time.
The no-purchase, no-ad model removes the biggest friction points families typically face with kids’ gaming apps. Parents who’ve ever watched their child accidentally click a $9.99 button in a mobile game will immediately appreciate what Netflix built here.
Whether Playground grows into something bigger with more titles and characters over time remains to be seen. But as a starting point, it covers the bases that matter most: safe content, recognizable shows, and a design that respects both kids’ attention spans and parents’ patience.
